When is it safe to return?

Coughs and colds            Until fully recovered

Chicken Pox                    5 days from onset of rash

German measles             6 days from onset of rash

Measles                          4 days from onset of rash (providing the child appears well)

Mumps                           5 days from the onset of the swelling

Diarrhoea/vomiting       48 hours from the last episode of diarrhea or vomiting

Dysentery, Food Poisoning, Diphtheria, Jaundice, Meningitis, Poliomyelitis, Scarlet Fever, Tuberculosis, Typhoid, Whooping Cough Until subsidence of symptoms, until declared fit to return or until declared fit to return by medical practitioner

Please consider the following carefully before sending your child back to Nursery.

  1. A child sent back too quickly often picks up another illness.
  2. Children often appear well at home, but experience a lack of energy when confronted with a busy school session.
  3. In the case of chicken pox children may return after all spots have completely dried up.  However, do remember that children scratch and knock off scabs easily and this can lead to infection when playing in the sand etc.

We hope that these guidelines will be useful.  We do not want to encourage absence from Nursery but would like to prevent illness whenever possible.
